The black American in the South during Reconstruction was treated better socially and politically...?

Any items that improved the ex slaves lives was very little during Reconstruction, and none following Plessy v Ferguson in 1896. The Freedman's' Bureau was for the blacks, but few benefited from it. Schools were built for the poor, but the black schools were a joke. The efforts of two men attempted to bring the blacks a better life W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington, but they received little recognition for their courageous and intelligent efforts. Successful blacks today have stood on the shoulders of these two men.
